HUD Lead Hazard Reduction & Healthy Homes Program
Protecting Families. Creating Safer Homes.
The City of York, in partnership with Service2Sumter, the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), and UA SafeState, has been awarded a HUD Lead-Based Paint Capacity Building Grant. This program is designed to protect children and families from the dangers of lead-based paint and other environmental health hazards found in older homes.
Through this grant, we are working to identify and eliminate lead hazards in qualifying homes throughout York and surrounding areas, while also building local capacity to sustain long-term lead-safe housing. In addition to lead remediation, the program also includes support for Healthy Homes interventions, helping families create safer, more livable spaces.
Services may include:
- Lead-based paint inspections and risk assessments
- Professional lead hazard control (e.g., paint stabilization, window and door replacement)
- Temporary relocation during repairs (if necessary)
- Healthy Homes repairs to address issues such as mold, ventilation, pest entry, and safety hazards
- Community education and contractor training
